“Abide in My Love”

Please Read John 15:9–17 (NKJV)

Reflection

Jesus continued teaching His disciples about the vine and the branches with these tender words:

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

Jesus’ love for us is the same quality of love the Father has for Him — deep, committed, and sacrificial. He invites us to abide in that love. Abiding is not occasional — it is a continual, intimate connection with Him.

He then gave the key to this abiding:

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

Jesus linked obedience, love, and joy together. When we obey His command to love one another as He loved us, we remain in His love, and His joy fills our lives. He even called them (and us) friends — not servants, but friends — because He has revealed the Father’s heart to us.

This kind of love is not natural. It is supernatural. It is the same love that caused Jesus to lay down His life for us. As we abide in Him, His love flows through us to others.

Application

Today, ask yourself: Am I abiding in Christ’s love? Is His love flowing through me to others, or have I been trying to love in my own strength?

Renew your mind with this truth: Abiding in Jesus’ love is the secret to a fruitful and joyful life. Take time today to draw near to Him — in His Word, in prayer, and in simple obedience. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the love of Christ so that you can love others as He has loved you. Choose one practical way to show His love to someone today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus invites us to abide in His love. Thank You that as we keep His commandments, we remain in that love and experience His joy. Forgive us for the times we have tried to love in our own strength. Renew our minds today to abide in Christ. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that the love of Jesus flows freely through us to others. Help us to love one another as He has loved us. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
