Signs of a New and Better Covenant - Part Ten

Daniel 9:27 where many lose the plot on this prophecy. “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”” (Daniel 9:27, NKJV)

People differ on who the “he” at the beginning of this verse represents. There is Messiah the Prince of whom several verses have spoken and there is the “people of the prince who shall come to destroy the city and the sanctuary.” Different versions share different renderings for the translation of this verse. I’ve been using New King James Version all along and will continue. If the “he” was referring to the “people of the prince who shall come to destroy…”, then the pronoun should be they because the subject of the sentence is “the people”.

However, if the “he” refers back to Messiah the Prince, then Jesus is the one who makes a covenant during the seventieth week and determines or declares the desolation of Jerusalem and its people. This is exactly what we find in The New Covenant, which we have dealt with in Matthew 23:38 “See! Your house is left to you desolate;”, and Matthew 26:27-28 “Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Jesus is the one who decreed Jerusalem’s destruction and Jesus is the one who made a new covenant which rendered the old covenant sacrifices obsolete. Then the remnants of the old covenant were completely destroyed within a generation according to the Matthew 24:34 prophesy of Jesus, Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.

Christ Jesus ended the previous age of coming to God through keeping a list of religious duties and initiated the current age of coming to God through faith, just like Abraham did before The Law.
