He had stood courageously before the Pharisees and declared, “One thing I know: though I was blind, now I see.” For that honest testimony, he was cast out of the synagogue — rejected by the very religious system he had grown up in.

Then something beautiful happened.

Jesus heard that they had cast him out. He went and found him.

“‘Do you believe in the Son of God?’

He answered and said, ‘Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?’

And Jesus said to him, ‘You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.’

Then he said, ‘Lord, I believe!’ And he worshiped Him.”

This is the climax of the story. The man received physical sight at the Pool of Siloam, but he received spiritual sight when Jesus found him after he was rejected. The moment Jesus revealed Himself, the man moved from “He is a prophet” to “Lord, I believe!” and fell down in worship.

True worship and genuine faith are born when we see Jesus for who He really is — not just as a healer or a prophet, but as the Son of God, the Light of the World, the great “I AM.”

Notice the contrast in this chapter:

The man born blind moved from darkness to light.

The Pharisees, who claimed to see clearly, remained spiritually blind.

Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

In the Kingdom life, physical blessings are wonderful, but they are not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is seeing Jesus clearly and worshiping Him as Lord. Many people experience a touch from God (physical healing, answered prayer, breakthrough), but never fully move into the deeper reality of knowing and worshiping Jesus for who He is.

True spiritual sight always leads to worship.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit: “Lord, am I seeing You clearly, or am I still partially blind in some area of my understanding of who You are?” Renew your mind with this truth: True faith and worship come when we see Jesus for who He really is. Take time today to worship Him simply as the Son of God and the Light of the World. If you have experienced a touch from God in the past but have not yet fully surrendered in worship, do so today. Let your response be the same as the healed man: “Lord, I believe!” and worship Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus seeks out those who are cast out and reveals Himself to them. Thank You for the beautiful moment when the man born blind moved from physical sight to spiritual sight and cried out, “Lord, I believe!” and worshiped You. Forgive us when we have been satisfied with blessings but have not fully seen Jesus for who He is. Renew our minds and open the eyes of our hearts today. Help us see Jesus clearly as the Son of God and the Light of the World. May our lives be marked by true worship and wholehearted faith. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. They were determined to discredit Jesus. They pressured him, saying, “Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.”

But the man who had once been blind refused to back down. With growing courage and simple faith, he gave one of the most powerful testimonies in the Bible:

“One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

He didn’t argue theology. He didn’t try to match their learning. He simply told the truth about what Jesus had done for him. The more they pressed him, the bolder he became:

“Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”

This man’s faith was growing right in front of them. At first he called Jesus “a prophet.” Now he was willing to suffer for Him. Pressure did not silence him — it strengthened him.

In the Kingdom life, simple, powerful testimony is often more effective than complex arguments. “One thing I know” carries great weight because it is honest, personal, and undeniable. The man born blind didn’t claim to understand everything, but what he did know, he declared boldly.

This is the kind of testimony that shakes religious systems. It doesn’t rely on credentials or perfect answers — it rests on a genuine encounter with Jesus. When we have been touched by the Light of the World, we can stand with confidence even under pressure and say, “One thing I know…”

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind one clear thing you know Jesus has done for you. Renew your mind with this truth: Simple, honest testimony is powerful, especially under pressure. Don’t wait until you have all the answers. Choose today to share your “one thing I know” story with someone. It may be as simple as “I was lost, but now I’m found” or “I was bound, but Jesus set me free.” Speak it with courage. Your testimony can plant seeds of faith in someone who is still walking in darkness.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the courage of the man born blind who stood before the Pharisees and declared, “One thing I know: though I was blind, now I see.” Thank You that simple, honest testimony has great power. Forgive us when we have stayed silent out of fear or waited until we had perfect answers. Renew our minds today to value truth-telling more than comfort or approval. Give us boldness to share what we do know about Jesus — what He has done for us and how He has changed us. May our simple testimony bring glory to Your Son and draw others into His light. But instead of rejoicing, the religious leaders launched an investigation. They called in the man’s parents and questioned them.

The parents knew the truth. They knew their son had been born blind. They knew he could now see. Yet their response was filled with fear:

“We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself.”

Why such fear? Because the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus as the Christ would be put out of the synagogue. To be cast out meant social and spiritual isolation — cut off from the community, the temple, and the only religious system they had ever known.

The parents chose self-preservation over truth. They passed the responsibility back to their son and stayed silent.

Then we read these sobering words in verse 22: “His parents said these things because they feared the Jews.”

This is the cost of standing for Jesus. Sometimes following Him costs us acceptance from religious systems, family, or community. The healed man was about to learn this the hard way. In the very next verses, he would be cast out of the synagogue for refusing to deny what Jesus had done for him.

In the Kingdom life, we must count the cost. Jesus never promised that following Him would make us popular with every religious system. He warned us that the world would hate us because it hated Him first. But He also promised that whoever loses his life for His sake will find it.

True discipleship is not about staying safe inside comfortable systems. It is about standing for Jesus even when it costs us acceptance, reputation, or belonging.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any place where fear of losing acceptance is keeping you silent about Jesus. Renew your mind with this truth: Sometimes following Jesus costs us acceptance from religious systems or people, but it never costs us more than He is worth. Is there a relationship, a group, or a situation where you have been tempted to stay silent or compromise to keep the peace? Choose today to speak truth in love. Stand for Jesus even if it costs you favor. Your courageous stand may be the very thing that leads someone else to see Him clearly.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of the man born blind who refused to deny what Jesus had done for him. Forgive us for the times we have chosen silence or compromise out of fear of losing acceptance. Renew our minds today to understand that following Jesus is worth any cost. Give us courage to stand for truth even when it costs us favor with people or religious systems. Help us value Your approval far above the approval of men. May our lives reflect bold, honest loyalty to Jesus, no matter the price. In His name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Instead of celebrating with him, the people brought him to the Pharisees for questioning.

They wanted to know how he had received his sight. The man gave a simple, honest testimony:

“He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”

The Pharisees immediately focused on the fact that Jesus had done this on the Sabbath. Some said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” Others were troubled and asked, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?”

In the middle of their debate, the healed man spoke up with quiet boldness:

“He is a prophet.”

This was his first public testimony. He didn’t know everything about Jesus yet. He hadn’t seen Him clearly. He didn’t fully understand who Jesus was. But what he did know, he spoke honestly and courageously — even though it was risky.

He was standing before the most powerful religious leaders of his day, and he refused to deny what Jesus had done for him.

In the Kingdom life, honest testimony in the face of religious pressure is a mark of true discipleship. We don’t have to know everything before we speak. We simply tell what we do know: “I was blind, but now I see.” “Jesus touched me.” “He told me to go and wash, and I obeyed.”

The man’s simple testimony created tension. It forced the religious leaders to confront the undeniable power of God at work. Honest testimony always does that. It doesn’t argue theology first — it simply declares what Jesus has done.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any place where you have been hesitant to give honest testimony because of fear of religious pressure, criticism, or rejection. Renew your mind with this truth: Honest testimony about what Jesus has done is powerful, even when it’s simple. Think of one thing Jesus has done in your life — a healing, a deliverance, an answer to prayer, or a moment of obedience that brought breakthrough. Decide today to share that testimony with at least one person. Speak it clearly and humbly. Your honest words can plant seeds of faith in someone else and bring glory to Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the courage of the man born blind who simply told the truth: “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” Thank You that honest testimony has power even when we don’t know everything. Forgive us when we have stayed silent because of fear of what others might think or say. Renew our minds today to value truth-telling more than approval. Give us boldness to speak what we do know about Jesus — what He has done for us and how He has changed us. May our simple, honest testimony bring glory to Your Son and draw others to Him. He did not ask for an explanation. He did not say, “That doesn’t make sense.” He simply obeyed. He went, he washed, and he came back seeing.

This is a powerful picture of how healing and breakthrough often come. Jesus’ methods are rarely what we expect. Sometimes He speaks a word. Sometimes He touches. Sometimes, as in this case, He gives a command that seems odd or even unnecessary. The mud did not contain healing power in itself. The Pool of Siloam was not a magic spring. The power was in the word of Jesus and the man’s obedient response to it.

In the Kingdom life, many of God’s promises require obedient action. Faith is not passive. It often involves doing what Jesus says even when it feels strange, inconvenient, or illogical. The blind man’s healing was not automatic — it required his response. He had to get up, walk to the pool, and wash.

Obedience to Jesus’ word is the pathway to seeing the works of God revealed in our lives. When we hear His command and act on it, we position ourselves for breakthrough.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit if there is any area in your life where Jesus has given you a clear instruction that you have not yet obeyed. It may seem small or strange, but simple obedience opens the door for God’s power to work. Renew your mind with this truth: Healing and breakthrough often come through obedient action in response to Jesus’ word. Identify one specific step of obedience the Lord is calling you to take today — whether it is forgiving someone, confessing something, stepping out in faith, or simply doing what you already know He has told you. Do it promptly and expectantly. As you obey, watch for the works of God to be revealed in you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus still gives commands that lead to healing and freedom. Thank You for the example of the man born blind who simply obeyed and received his sight. Forgive us for the times we have argued with Your instructions or delayed our obedience. Renew our minds today to understand that simple obedience to Your word positions us for Your power. Give us willing and quick hearts to do whatever You tell us, even when it seems unusual. May the works of God be revealed in our lives as we walk in obedience. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. The disciples immediately asked a question that many still ask today when they see suffering: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

They assumed the blindness had to be someone’s fault. In their minds, suffering was always the direct result of personal sin. While it is true that our own choices and lifestyle can sometimes bring trouble and even sickness upon us, not every hardship or affliction is the direct result of someone’s sin. Many things come through unexplained circumstances, the brokenness of this fallen world, or forces outside our control.

Jesus gave a surprising and freeing answer:

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.”

He shifted the focus away from blame and fault-finding and placed it on purpose and glory. This man’s long years of darkness were not meaningless. They were about to become the stage on which the power and mercy of God would be displayed for all to see.

Jesus then declared, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

In the Kingdom life, we are invited to stop spending so much energy asking “Who sinned?” and start asking “How can God be glorified in this?” Even the hardest, most unexplained circumstances in our lives can become the very place where the works of God are revealed — if we will bring them to Jesus.

Application

Today, bring before the Lord any area of your life where you have been asking “Why is this happening?” or “Whose fault is this?” Renew your mind with this truth: Not every difficulty is the result of personal sin, and even the hardest situations can become the stage for God’s glory. Release the need to assign blame. Instead, ask the Holy Spirit, “Lord, how do You want to be glorified in this?” Then take one step of obedience today — whether it is praying in faith, forgiving someone, or simply trusting Jesus as the Light in your darkness. Watch and expect God to reveal His works in your situation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus does not leave us stuck in blame and fault-finding. Thank You that even in situations we cannot explain, You can still be glorified. Forgive us for the times we have focused more on assigning blame than on looking for Your glory. Renew our minds today. Help us bring every hardship, every unanswered question, and every area of suffering to Jesus, the Light of the World. Work Your works in us and through us so that Your glory may be revealed. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. The religious leaders accused Jesus of having a demon. In response, Jesus made the clearest and most shocking claim of His entire ministry:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

With those words, Jesus did not merely claim to be older than Abraham. He claimed to be the eternal God Himself. “I AM” was the sacred covenant name God revealed to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). By using it, Jesus was declaring, “I am the same eternal God who spoke to Moses. I existed before Abraham. I am Yahweh in the flesh.”

The Jews understood exactly what He was saying. They picked up stones to throw at Him — the penalty for blasphemy. In their eyes, Jesus had gone too far. But Jesus was not blaspheming. He was revealing the truth of His eternal nature.

This is the great offense of the Gospel and the glory of our faith. Jesus is not just a good teacher, a prophet, or a moral example. He is the eternal Son of God — the great “I AM” who stepped into time. Before Abraham existed, before the world was created, He was. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

True faith does not negotiate with this claim. True faith bows before His eternal glory. When we see Jesus as the great “I AM,” everything changes. Our worship deepens, our obedience becomes joyful, and our confidence in His promises becomes unshakable.

In the Kingdom life, we are called to live in awe of who Jesus really is. He is not someone we manage or reduce to fit our understanding. He is the eternal God who became flesh, died for our sins, rose again, and now invites us to know Him as Lord and Savior.

Application

Today, take time to meditate on the greatness of Jesus. Renew your mind with this truth: Before Abraham was, Jesus is the great “I AM.” Let this reality humble you and fill you with wonder. Choose one practical way today to bow before His glory — perhaps through extended worship, declaring one of His “I AM” statements from the Gospel of John, or simply telling Him, “Jesus, You are the great I AM, and I worship You.” Let the eternal nature of Christ shape how you face today’s challenges and decisions.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the glory of Your Son. Thank You that before Abraham was, Jesus is the great “I AM.” We bow before His eternal majesty today. Forgive us for the times we have reduced Him in our thinking or treated Him as less than who He truly is. Renew our minds and enlarge our hearts to worship Him as the eternal God. Help us live in awe of His glory and walk in joyful obedience to the One who existed before all things. May our lives continually declare that Jesus is Lord — the great “I AM.” In His mighty name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.

Seeking Jesus First - April 10, 2026

“Whose Child Are You Really?”

Please Read John 8:37–47 (NKJV)

Reflection

Jesus looked straight at those who claimed Abraham as their father and said something that cut to the heart:

“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill

John

Seeking Jesus First

Discipleship

Clay Runnels

“Whose Child Are You Really?”

Please Read John 8:37–47 (NKJV)

Reflection

Jesus looked straight at those who claimed Abraham as their father and said something that cut to the heart:

“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you… You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.”

The religious leaders were proud of their natural lineage, but Jesus exposed the deeper reality. Spiritual fatherhood is not determined by bloodline or religious heritage. It is revealed by who we obey and what we love.

Paul echoes this truth in Romans 6 when he uses the language of slavery and servanthood: “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves as slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey?” (Romans 6:16). Whether we realize it or not, we are always serving someone. Our daily choices reveal whose child we really are.

Abraham believed God and walked in obedience. The leaders, however, wanted to kill the very One Abraham rejoiced to see. Their rejection of truth revealed their true spiritual father. Jesus said it plainly: “He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

In the Kingdom life, obedience always reveals identity. We reveal our true father by how we respond to the truth. When we love the truth, welcome it, and obey it, we show that God is our Father. When we resist or reject it, we show we are listening to another voice.

This is why Jesus calls us to abide in His word. As we continue in His word, we are set free from slavery to sin and brought into the full rights of sonship. The Son makes us free indeed — free to live as beloved children who abide forever in the Father’s house.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit this searching question: “Whose child am I really living like?” Renew your mind with this truth: To whom you present yourself as a slave to obey — that is whose child you are revealing yourself to be. Look at one area of your life where your actions may not be matching your confession. Choose today to obey God’s Word in that area. Let your obedience declare loudly that God is your Father. As you abide in His word, you will walk in the freedom and inheritance of a true son or daughter.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that we can know whose children we really are by how we respond to Your truth. Thank You that Jesus came to set us free from every false father and bring us into Your family as beloved sons and daughters. Search our hearts today. Forgive us for any resistance to Your Word or any time we have obeyed the wrong voice. Renew our minds and realign our hearts. Help us love the truth and obey it quickly. Let our lives clearly show that You are our Father. May our obedience reveal our true identity as Your children. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.

A Study in the Divine Warrior’s Armor

The Divine Warrior’s Armor: Restoring Intimacy from Sinai to the Heavenly PlacesA Biblical Study Drawing from Deuteronomy 5, Exodus 19, Isaiah 51 & 59, and Ephesians 6 (NKJV)

At Mount Sinai, the people of Israel experienced the awesome holiness of God in a way that filled them

Seeking Jesus First

Spiritual Warfare

Stand in the Gap

Clay Runnels

The Divine Warrior’s Armor: Restoring Intimacy from Sinai to the Heavenly PlacesA Biblical Study Drawing from Deuteronomy 5, Exodus 19, Isaiah 51 & 59, and Ephesians 6 (NKJV)

At Mount Sinai, the people of Israel experienced the awesome holiness of God in a way that filled them with fear. After the Lord spoke the Ten Commandments directly amid thunder, lightning, fire, and thick darkness, they pleaded for distance rather than deeper intimacy. Moses records their words in Deuteronomy 5:25-27:

“So now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God anymore, then we shall die. For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? You go near and hear all that the LORD our God may say, and tell us all that the LORD our God says to you, and we will hear and do it.”

They asked for a mediator—Moses—to stand between them and God. The Lord accepted their request, but it highlighted the separation caused by sin and human frailty.

Yet God had offered something far greater just days earlier at the same mountain. In Exodus 19:5-6 He declared:

“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Israel was called to be a nation where every person enjoyed priestly access to God and reflected His glory to the world. Instead, fear led to distance. Under the old covenant, only the tribe of Levi served as priests, and only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies—once a year, with blood, in great reverence.

Centuries later, the prophet Isaiah exposed the ongoing tragedy of a people still separated from God by sin. He writes in Isaiah 59:4:

“No one calls for justice, Nor does any plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity.”

The indictment runs deep: no justice, no truth, only lies and empty words. By Isaiah 59:16, the situation reaches its lowest point:

“He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.”

When no human intercessor could be found, God Himself rose up as the Divine Warrior. Verse 17 describes the armor He wore:

“For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.”

The passage climaxes with glorious hope in Isaiah 59:20-21:

“The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the LORD. “As for Me,” says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the LORD, “from this time and forevermore.”

This is the promise of the New Covenant: a Redeemer who removes transgression, the indwelling Holy Spirit as the seal of our redemption, and God’s own words placed in our mouths for generations to come.

A related promise in Isaiah 51:16 echoes the same hope with cosmic language:

“And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, That I may plant the heavens, Lay the foundations of the earth, And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

God is not merely patching the old order—He is planting the heavens anew and restoring His people.

The apostle Paul, deeply steeped in these Isaiah passages, brings the vision to its New Testament fulfillment. Writing from prison, he urges believers in Ephesians 6:10-20:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

We are not merely planting the heavens with His word from a place here on earth, but we are seated with Him in the heavenly places while we plant the heavens. We are also uniquely located here on earth with His Spirit abiding in us, and this is how we establish the foundations of the earth at the same time. (See Ephesians 2:6 – “and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”; Ephesians 1:3 – “who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”)

This magnificent restoration ties into the broader story of Israel. As Paul explains in Romans 9–11, Israel’s partial hardening opened the door for Gentiles to receive salvation and become jealous. Yet a future day is coming when “all Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26), and their full acceptance will mean “life from the dead” for the world (Romans 11:15). The same Redeemer from Zion will complete the restoration.

In Summary

From Sinai’s trembling distance, through the prophetic vision of the Divine Warrior in Isaiah, to the New Covenant reality in Ephesians, the storyline is one of God’s relentless pursuit of intimacy with His people. The Father sent the Son to bridge the gap. The Holy Spirit seals and empowers us. Clothed in the armor of God, we stand firm, pray without ceasing, and boldly proclaim the gospel—participating in the planting of the heavens until the Redeemer finishes His work.

Seeking Jesus First - April 9, 2026

“The Truth Shall Make You Free”Please Read John 8:31–36 (NKJV)

Reflection

Jesus spoke to those Jews who had believed in Him and gave them this powerful promise: “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The religious leaders immediately pushed back: “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” They were trusting in their natural descent from Abraham as their guarantee of freedom and favor with God. But Jesus exposed the deeper reality: “Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.”

Here is the overlooked and life-changing truth: A slave has no permanent right to stay in the master’s house and no inheritance. But if the Son — the rightful heir of the house — sets you free, you are free indeed. More than that, the Son can adopt you into the family. You move from slavery to sonship. You receive the right to abide in the house forever and share in the inheritance.

The Jews were counting on their physical connection to Abraham, who lived roughly 2,000 years earlier. Abraham was called the friend of God and received great promises, but they were boasting in someone else’s relationship with God instead of entering into their own. God had already shown He could raise up children to Abraham from stones (Matthew 3:9). Now He was offering them something far greater — not just freedom from sin’s bondage, but adoption as sons in His own house.

This is the heart of the New Covenant. Abiding in Jesus’ word is not mere rule-keeping. It is a living relationship that renews the mind and transforms us from slaves into sons. The truth we come to know is not just information — it is Jesus Himself. When the Son sets us free, we are free indeed — free to abide in the Father’s house as beloved children with full inheritance rights.

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit: Am I still living like a slave — bound by sin, fear, or old patterns — or am I living as a son who abides in the house? Renew your mind with this truth: If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed, and you have the right to abide forever in the Father’s house. Choose one area today where you have been living in bondage and deliberately abide in Jesus’ word concerning it. Speak His truth over that area, obey what He shows you, and thank Him that you are no longer a slave but a son with full inheritance rights. Let your freedom become a testimony that invites others into sonship.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus offers more than freedom from sin — He offers adoption as sons and daughters. Thank You that the slave does not abide forever, but the son does. Forgive us when we have trusted in religious heritage, past relationships with You, or our own efforts instead of abiding in Your Son. Renew our minds today to know the truth that sets us free. Let us continue in Your word and experience the freedom only the Son can give. Help us live as sons and daughters who abide in Your house with full inheritance rights. May our lives display the glorious liberty of the children of God. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.

Seeking Jesus First - April 8, 2026

“You Will Know the Truth”Please Read John 8:21–30 (NKJV)

ReflectionJesus looked at the religious leaders and spoke with solemn urgency: “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”

He was warning them of the limited window of grace. The Light of the world was standing right in front of them, yet many were refusing to believe. Jesus made it clear — there would come a time when they would look for Him and not find Him. The opportunity to respond would pass.

The people were confused and began to argue among themselves. Some even asked, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?” They completely missed the point. Jesus was speaking of His death, resurrection, and return to the Father.

Then He gave them the key: “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.”

Once again, Jesus pointed to the cross. The very act of being “lifted up” — crucified — would become the clearest revelation of who He truly is. Those who responded in faith would discover the truth. Those who continued in unbelief would die in their sin.

This passage carries the same urgent heartbeat we saw in Isaiah 55:6: “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” Grace has a present moment. The Light is shining now. To delay is dangerous.

In the Kingdom life, we are called to respond to Jesus in the present moment of grace. Faith is not something we put off until a more convenient time. It is an act of the will — a deliberate choice to believe and follow while the opportunity is still open.

ApplicationToday, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart: Is there any area where I have been delaying my response to Jesus? Have I been putting off a step of obedience, a confession, or a fresh surrender? Renew your mind with this truth: “Seek Him while He may be found.” Do not wait. Respond to Him today in the present moment of grace. Take one clear action — obey what He has already shown you, speak the truth in love, or simply tell Him, “Lord, I believe. I will follow You now.” Your timely response today can keep your heart soft and open to His voice for years to come.

PrayerHeavenly Father, thank You that Jesus warns us with love and urgency. Thank You that He calls us to respond while He is near. Forgive us for the times we have delayed, argued, or changed the subject instead of believing. Renew our minds today to recognize the present moment of grace. Help us seek You while You may be found. Give us quick and willing hearts to obey and follow Jesus. May we never take Your light for granted. Let our lives be marked by timely faith and wholehearted response to the One who is from above. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. He told them plainly, “I am from above… I am not of this world.” He declared that He does nothing on His own, but only what the Father has taught Him. The religious leaders kept pressing Him, refusing to accept who He claimed to be.

Many today — including those who reject the deity of Christ — make the same argument the Pharisees made. They say Jesus never clearly claimed to be God or the Son of God. Yet Jesus kept giving them the answer: “I am from above,” “The One who sent Me is true,” and “I do nothing of Myself, but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.”

Finally, Jesus gave them the ultimate sign: “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself, but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.”

The Greek word for “lift up” is hypsoō. It carries a powerful double meaning. Literally, it means to raise someone up on something — like lifting Jesus up on the cross. Figuratively, it means to exalt or glorify. When they crucified Him, they thought they were ending His claims. Instead, God raised Him from the dead and highly exalted Him, giving Him the name that is above every name (Philippians 2:9–11). The very act meant to humiliate Him became the means of His greatest glory and the clearest revelation of who He is.

This is a Kingdom principle: When we exalt Christ — lifting Him up in our lives, our words, our worship, and our obedience — we begin to truly know who He is. The cross was not defeat; it was exaltation. The resurrection and ascension confirmed it. Jesus is from above. He is the Son sent by the Father. He is the great “I Am.”

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any place where you have been slow to exalt Jesus in your daily life. Renew your mind with this truth: When we lift up the Son of Man — through faith, obedience, worship, and testimony — we come to know Him more deeply as the One from above. Choose one practical way today to exalt Christ: speak His name boldly, obey a clear instruction from His Word, worship Him in the middle of a challenge, or share with someone that Jesus is the Son sent from the Father. As you lift Him up, expect fresh revelation of who He really is.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus boldly declared He is from above and that He does only what You taught Him. Thank You for the double meaning of being “lifted up” — the cross that looked like defeat became the place of His greatest exaltation. Forgive us when we have been slow to lift Him up in our lives or when we have listened to voices that diminish who He is. Renew our minds today to see Jesus clearly as the Son of God, the One sent from above. Help us exalt Him in our words, our actions, and our worship. As we lift Him up, let us know Him more deeply and walk in the light of His truth. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.

Seeking Jesus First - April 6, 2026

Part 3: “The Light That Judges”

Reflection

Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world.”

That same light that offers life to those who follow Him also exposes and judges those who persistently reject Him.

In Isaiah 6, the prophet asked, “Lord, how long?

John

Seeking Jesus First

Clay Runnels

Part 3: “The Light That Judges”

Reflection

Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world.”

That same light that offers life to those who follow Him also exposes and judges those who persistently reject Him.

In Isaiah 6, the prophet asked, “Lord, how long?”

God’s answer was solemn: “Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant… the land is utterly desolate.”

This was not an arbitrary decree. It was judicial hardening — the consequence of a people who had seen the light again and again, yet refused to respond. They heard, but would not understand. They saw, but would not perceive. Their hearts had become so resistant that even the coming of the Messiah in their midst could not turn them.

Jesus stood in the glow of the great Temple lamps during the Feast of Tabernacles and said, “I am the light of the world.”

The very generation that heard those words would soon witness the fulfillment of Isaiah’s “how long?” In AD 70, Jerusalem and its Temple were destroyed. The cities were laid waste. The judgment pronounced centuries earlier reached its climax because they rejected the Light when He stood right in front of them.

This is a sobering reality.

The same light that brings life can become judgment when it is repeatedly refused. Nations and individuals can reach a point where they have participated so deeply in wickedness that they leave God no other way than to allow justice to fall. Sometimes the people themselves rise up. Sometimes another power becomes the sword of justice. But the root cause is the same: persistent rejection of the light.

Yet even in this warning there is hope.

The light has not stopped shining. Jesus is still the Light of the world. For every heart that chooses to respond today — for every person who says, “I will follow You” — the promise remains: “He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Application

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart: Is there any area where I have been resisting the light? Where have I seen truth but chosen to look away? Bring that area to Jesus right now. Renew your mind with this truth: The light that judges is the same light that saves. Choose to respond while grace is still drawing you. Walk in the light today — obey what you already know, confess what has been hidden, and follow Jesus with fresh surrender. Your decision to walk in the light can break cycles of hardening in your own life and become a testimony that helps someone else turn before it is too late.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the Light of the world. Thank You that His light both exposes and saves. We humble ourselves before You today. Forgive us for any resistance or hardness of heart. Deliver us from judicial hardening. Let Your light shine into every dark place in our lives. Help us respond quickly while You are near. May we walk in the light so that we do not stumble, and may our lives become a testimony that draws others to the Savior before judgment falls. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.

Seeking Jesus First - April 5, 2026

Part 2: “I Am the Light of the World”

Please Read John 8:12 (NKJV)

Reflection

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

This was not a gentle metaphor. Jesus was making one of the strongest claims of His ministry. During the Feast of Tabernacles, the Temple courts were illuminated each night by four massive golden lampstands. The light from those lamps could be seen across Jerusalem, reminding the people of God’s presence with Israel in the wilderness and pointing forward to the promised Messiah.

When Jesus stood in that setting and declared, “I am the light of the world,” the Jews would have immediately heard the echo of Scripture:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation” (Psalm 27:1)

“Light is sown for the righteous” (Psalm 97:11)

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light” (Isaiah 9:2)

God Himself called “the light of Israel” (Isaiah 10:17)

Jesus was not saying He brought light. He was saying He is the Light — the fulfillment of every promise, the One who breaks into darkness, the Creator who spoke “Let there be light” in the beginning. To follow Him means never walking in darkness but having the light of life.

The Pharisees immediately changed the subject. Instead of wrestling with the weight of His claim, they objected, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true” (v. 13). Rather than responding to the revelation, they shifted to a technical argument about legal testimony. This is a common human response when the truth gets too close — we change the subject, raise objections, or attack the messenger instead of facing the claim.

In the Kingdom life, we are called to do the opposite. When Jesus declares “I am the light of the world,” our response should not be deflection but surrender. We renew our minds to recognize that Jesus is not one source of light among many — He is the Light. Choose to follow Him deliberately in one specific area today — perhaps by bringing a hidden struggle into the light, obeying a prompting you’ve been avoiding, or simply declaring, “Lord, You are my light.” Let His light expose and heal. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

The Jews would have immediately understood the weight of those words.
