How does one know the truth?

“Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.” (Ephesians 4:25, NKJV)

The beginning of truth is found in following Christ Jesus. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”” (John 14:6–7, NKJV) Jesus said, “If you have seen me, you have seen The Father.”

Jesus is truth, but one can not know the truth if they speak lies. In order to know the truth, we must cease lying and start speaking the truth. Apostle Paul said, “but speaking the truth in love, we grow up into Christ…”. When we lie, we separate ourselves from truth. Jesus told the pharisees that they were of their lying father the devil. The deceiver has not part with truth.

When we come to Christ and believe in Him, we receive the truth. When we say what he said, we speak the truth. When we speak the truth in love, we become mature in Christ, the anointed one and the anointing. Jesus said, If you continue in my word, you are indeed my disciples/followers; and you will know the truth that gives you freedom.”

Apostle James said, “But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.” (James 3:14, NKJV) To walk in truth is to be open and honest with God; what He is saying to you and what is going on inside your heart. Let the loving word of God which is truth train your heart to know the love of God and flavor your responses to what happens in life. We can be free in the truth. We can be free from bitterness and strife. We can be free from offense and malice.

Knowing the truth and walking in the truth and experiencing the truth are all the same thing. Truth living is truth speaking. Truth without love is just a temporary fact which is subject to change. Truth which is full of God’s love is eternal.
