Reflection
Jesus looked beyond the fold of Israel and made this powerful declaration:
“And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one Shepherd.”
This was a revolutionary statement. The Jewish leaders believed the blessings of God belonged exclusively to them. But Jesus was announcing the coming reality of the Church — one unified flock made up of both Jews and Gentiles under His leadership.
The Apostle Paul later explained this mystery beautifully in Ephesians 2:14–18:
“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation… that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross… For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.”
Jesus didn’t come to create two separate flocks. He came to tear down the dividing wall of hostility between Jew and Gentile so that He could create one new man — one unified flock — under one Shepherd. The cross was the place where this unity was purchased. Through His blood, both groups now have access by one Spirit to the Father.
This is the heart of the New Covenant. Jesus is building one flock. There are not Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians living in two separate pens. There is only one flock, and Jesus is the one Shepherd. Every person who hears His voice and follows Him belongs to the same family.
In the Kingdom life, this truth calls us higher than denominational loyalty, cultural preferences, or ethnic divisions. Our primary identity is not found in our background, our tradition, or our group — it is found in Christ. We are called to live as one flock under one Shepherd, loving one another as He has loved us.
Application
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any place where you have been building or honoring a “middle wall” that Jesus already tore down. Renew your mind with this truth: Jesus is building one unified flock under His leadership. Look for a practical way today to express the unity of the Body of Christ — perhaps by encouraging a believer from a different background, praying for another part of the Church, or choosing love over division. Let your life contribute to the “one flock” that Jesus is gathering.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the one Shepherd over one flock. Thank You that through the cross He has broken down every dividing wall and made us one in Him. Forgive us for the times we have exalted our own group, tradition, or background above the unity You have created. Renew our minds today to see every believer as part of Your one flock. Help us live as members of the same body, loving one another with the love of the Good Shepherd. May Your Church reflect the beautiful unity that Jesus prayed for and died for. In His name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
