“I Am He”

“I Am He”

Reflection

Jesus, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to those who had come to arrest Him, “Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am He.”

And when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

The same Name Jesus had manifested throughout His ministry was now spoken in the hour of darkness. In the garden, surrounded by soldiers, lanterns, and weapons, the simple declaration “I am” carried such weight that those who came to seize Him fell backward. The power of the Name was not diminished by the night or by the betrayal. It remained the Name above every name.

Jesus had already told the Father, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me.” Now, in the moment of His arrest, that Name is spoken aloud — and even His enemies cannot stand before it. Yet Jesus does not use the power of the Name to escape. He uses it to identify Himself clearly and to protect those who belong to Him: “If you seek Me, let these go their way.”

The One who is the great I AM willingly steps into the hands of men, still fully in control, still keeping those the Father has given Him.

Application

Today, remember that the Name of Jesus still carries authority — in the light and in the dark. “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Renew your mind with this truth: The same “I AM” who caused soldiers to fall backward is the One who keeps you. You do not face any hour alone. Call upon His Name with confidence, and rest in the protection of the One who has already manifested the Father’s Name and still holds all authority.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus declared “I am He” in the hour of darkness and that the power of His Name caused those who came against Him to fall back. Thank You that He used that moment to protect His disciples. We stand in the authority of that same Name today. Keep us in Your Name. Let us walk in the confidence that the great I AM is with us and for us. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
