Seeking Jesus First Dec. 17, 2025

How many of us have prayed, “Lead us not into temptation…”? All of us, right?

And many of us pray the prayer of David, “Lead us in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.”

And we know that , ”The sons of God are led by the Spirit of God.”

And that, “The Father deals with us as with sons and chastens the ones that He loves.”

Why be angry when we hear The Spirit of The Father tell us not to do something or to go somewhere that we don’t want to go?

We watch a television show that is full of temptation and language that The Father and His Spirit would never use. Holy Spirit deals with us about it and we push His leading aside because, “it won’t hurt anything.”, or, “I’m mature enough to handle this.”

The Spirit leads. He doesn’t push from behind. The Spirit leading requires us to follow in order for the leading to work. Or do we just reserve following the Spirit for special situations?

When we resist the Spirit, our conscience begins to justify itself and it becomes seared, as with a hot iron it becomes callous, and we stop hearing the gentle leadings of The Spirit of God. He doesn’t stop trying to lead us or The Scripture would say that. It says our conscience becomes seared as with a hot iron. We stop listening. He doesn’t stop speaking. If He does stop speaking to us, there will be no opportunity to repent. Faith is the result of hearing the Spirit of God make the Word of God alive in our hearts.

When we act on our faith with words and deeds, we grow. We grow and our ability to respond grows. Our ability to respond is our “response”-“ability”. We become responsible to the Word of God that we have received. We are able to respond because we have received God’s word. His word is His will. His word is His authority. His word is His command and His promise.

His word is exalted even above His name. If we honor His name, we have a responsibility to honor His word.

“Father, lead us not into temptation, lead us in the paths of righteousness and deliver us from evil, in the Name of Jesus. Amen”
