Why was The LORD JESUS not of this world?
Christ Jesus claimed that He was not of this world, and that, like Him, His disciples were not of this world.
“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” (John 17:15–19, NKJV)
“World” is the word ‘kosmos’ in the Greek and has several interpretations. It is mostly translated “world”. However, it is also defined as “the orderly arrangement” so it can be understood as “the world’s system” - of government as one example. If there is a worldly system, then we can understand that there is a spiritual or heavenly system of government.
This is why Christ Jesus came preaching, “Repent for the kingdom of God is here.” Because the disciples had accepted the words of KING JESUS, they were no longer of the world’s system. They were no longer earthly or fleshly but heavenly or spiritual. They were no longer led by the mind of the flesh but the mind of Christ. “He has delivered us from the power (authority or kingdom) of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,” (Colossians 1:13, NKJV)
We are, like Jesus Christ, of a higher kingdom, a higher authority, and a greater power. Our faith in Jesus and the knowledge that He gives us concerning the heavenly kingdom is the victory that overcomes the world’s system.
