You are the temple of God and you are holy.
1 Cor. 3:16 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”
You are the temple of God in the Holy Spirit dwells in you. The Temple is holy because of the Holy Spirit who dwells in it. “Holy” can be understood as sanctified for God’s purpose. The Lord Jesus was sanctified by the Father, and sent into the world to save the world. When we received the Holy Spirit, we were commissioned by God for his will and his purpose.
In verse 17, the word “defile” means to corrupt and destroy. Once we understand what God has done by giving us His Holy Spirit, a great responsibility settles upon us. God has given us his word, and with His word comes His mind and His authority. He has given us His Spirit, and with His Spirit comes His power and His divine nature. He has given us His faith, and with His faith comes His righteousness and His purpose.
We are uniquely empowered to be God’s holy dwelling place. We are able to overcome sin, sickness and death. We are able to overcome the devil.
In these verses, Apostle Paul tells us that we are God’s holy temple. He also warns us against defiling and destroying God’s holy temple, declaring that God will destroy those who destroy it. God is jealous concerning us. Thank God for Jesus Christ who always causes us to triumph and who is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Turn to God’s word and repent. Be continually filled with The Holy Spirit and be holy for He is holy and He has made you holy. Fulfill the purpose God has for you.
