“The World Will Hate You”

“The World Will Hate You”
Please Read John 15:18–25 (NKJV)
Reflection
Jesus had already faced the part of the world that rejects the light. Now He prepared His disciples for the same reality:
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
Jesus was clear. The hatred His disciples would face was not random — it was because they belonged to Him. The world loves its own, but those who have been chosen out of the world will experience opposition. The light exposes what is hidden, and those living in darkness are often offended by the light at first.
Jesus reminded them that this hatred was ultimately against the Father as well:
“He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.”
The world’s hatred is not primarily because of us — it is because of Christ in us. The same light that draws some will offend others. Jesus was preparing His disciples (and us) for the cost of following Him.
Application
Today, consider how you respond when you face opposition because of your faith. Do you shrink back, or do you remember that the world hated Jesus first?
Renew your mind with this truth: If the world hates you, it hated Jesus before it hated you. Do not be surprised by rejection or opposition. Instead, let it remind you that you have been chosen out of the world. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you courage and wisdom to stand firm in the light, even when it offends those around you. Keep shining — the light still draws those who are seeking truth.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus warned us about the world’s hatred so we would not be caught off guard. Thank You that when we face opposition, it is because we belong to Him. Forgive us for the times we have shrunk back from the light because we feared rejection. Renew our minds today to remember that the world hated Jesus first. Give us courage and wisdom to walk in the light, even when it costs us. Let Your light shine through us so that those who are seeking truth may find it. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
