“He Will Glorify Me”
Please Read John 16:12–15 (NKJV)
Reflection
Jesus continued teaching His disciples about the Holy Spirit with these words:
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”
The Holy Spirit’s primary work is to glorify Jesus. He does not draw attention to Himself. He takes what belongs to the Son and makes it known to us. In this passage Jesus clearly speaks of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as distinct Persons who share all things in perfect unity.
When the Spirit comes to dwell in us, He does more than teach us information. He seals in our hearts that we belong to Christ. We are the bride of Christ and the body of Christ. We are sons of God. The Spirit of adoption cries out within us, “Abba, Father.”
Christ was the mystery revealed. The Holy Spirit is that revealed mystery now implanted in our hearts. Being “in Christ” is the very mechanism of praying “in His name.” It is not merely saying the name of Jesus at the end of a prayer. It is living in union with Him — so that our prayers flow from our place in Him.
Application
Today, thank God that the Spirit of truth lives in you to glorify Jesus and to make known what belongs to Him.
Renew your mind with this truth: You are in Christ, and the Holy Spirit has sealed that reality in your heart. Ask the Spirit to deepen your awareness of your union with Jesus. Let Him take what belongs to Christ and declare it to you. As you abide in Christ, pray from that place of belonging — not just using His name, but praying as one who is truly in Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Spirit of truth who glorifies Jesus and makes known to us what belongs to Him. Thank You that He has sealed us as sons and as the body and bride of Christ. Forgive us for the times we have prayed only with words instead of from our place of union with Jesus. Renew our minds today to live and pray “in His name” — from our true position in Christ. Let the Holy Spirit continue to take what is Christ’s and declare it to us. May Jesus be glorified in and through our lives. In His name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
