Seeking Jesus First - June 9, 2023
“Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?” (Proverbs 20:6, NKJV)
This statement and question rings very true with politicians as well. How many declare their true agenda, and faithfully keep their word?
Many politicians go hard line in the primary and the center in the general election. They start by saying everything their base wants to hear and then they flip flop so many times that no one knows what they truly stand for. Most seem to make promises with no intention to keep them and many use ambiguous terms for the specific purpose of misleading.
What makes someone faithful? Faithful is defined as remaining loyal and steadfast - staying true to the original.
Remaining loyal and steadfast is praiseworthy. But what ideals and values are worthy of adherence?
Can a person who believes in lying and cheating remain faithful to lying and cheating? No, because that is the definition of unfaithfulness. A person can stay a liar and a cheater all their life but that is not faithfulness. That is wickedness.
For a person to remain loyal and steadfast and stay true to the original, they must find and learn about the original. Then they must find away to be like the original.
God made man in His image, so the original is God Himself.
Wickedness is the twisting of what is true until it aligns with the desire of the flesh. Think of a wicker chair. It has the same root word. They take the material and twist and shape it until it holds the desired form. They make it conform to the body so that we can use it as a chair or a couch.
God is the original. God is light and love and life and truth.
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NKJV)
“And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1:4, NKJV)
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14, NKJV)
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12, NKJV)
“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:8–15, NKJV)
We approach God through faith in The LORD Jesus Christ. God makes us a new creature and gives us His Holy Spirit. Through faith in God’s word and the enabling of Holy Spirit we are able to be transformed into His image. We become light and love and light and truth and we are able to remain steadfast and loyal to the original.
If one argues that it is impossible for anyone to be like God, remember all things are possible with God and to Him who believes.
If one argues that we are unable to do anything in our own strength, remember that it takes a great deal of rejecting God to do something in your own strength. You have been adopted by The Perfect Loving Father of all creation. His Spirit dwells in you. God “figured out” how to make us one with Himself.
Why should a believer even try doing stuff without God? When you believe God’s word, you are doing it with God. He gave you the faith to believe it. When you obey God’s word, you are doing it with God. He gave you the power to obey it.
God found a faithful man when Jesus became one. Jesus was faithful to the original and showed us how to do it. Jesus did it without proclaiming His own goodness, but by proclaiming the goodness of the original where all goodness originates. If we follow Jesus, we can be faithful people.
