Are you a disciple of Christ Jesus?
“Then Jesus said to those who believed in Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”” (John 8:31–32, NKJV)
Jesus described a disciple as one who abides or continues in His word. Believe in Him, Hear and keep His words, experience the truth, be free.
What do you think it means to abide in His word? Abide means to dwell or to continue in. Listen, this is what we do because we believe in Jesus. We continue in His word. We keep His word. We read, memorize, meditate, speak and apply His word to our lives. As we do this, we come to know and experience the truth and freedom that His word produces in the people who abide in it. This is not some tricky way to get you to keep religious laws. This is what Jesus said to people who believe in Him.
- Hear My word.
- Listen to My word.
- Pay attention to how you hear My word.
- Abide in My word.
- Keep My word.
- Continue in My word.
- Obey My word.
- Love My word.
- Exalt My word.
Keep his word in your mouth and on your lips, meditate in it day and night so that you observe and do all of it. Then you will make your way prosperous and you will have good success. You will know the truth and you will walk in liberty from all bondage.
