Authority is given by fiat. Divine authority is given by divine authority.
A fiat is defined, Authorization or sanction. An authoritative command or order to do something; an effectual decree.
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” (John 10:17–18, NKJV)
“For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”” (John 12:49–50, NKJV)
Every command of God carries with it the empowerment - the authority and power - to carry it out. Jesus said that He was empowered by our Father in Heaven to lay His life down and take it back up again. Jesus had the authority of God, through obedience to God, to raise Himself from the dead. He believed it. He decreed it. His own authority was the result of being under The Father’s authority. Jesus could do anything that the Father commanded Him to do.
While on the earth, Christ Jesus acted upon God’s authority. He only spoke what The Father gave Him to speak. He only did what He saw The Father doing. It was this close obedience and keep ing of The Father’s words that gave The LORD Jesus the authority to do all that He did. If Jesus saw the importance of obedience and staying true to The Father’s commands, what about us?
Well, if we believe that we have no authority I Christ Jesus, we must believe that it is fine to disobey Christ Jesus. However, if we believe that He has given His followers authority through His commands, we must believe that obedience is key. Obedience to the commands grants the authority of the command. It is impossible to decree that we have His authority if we reject His authority to tell us what to do. It is ludicrous to think that we can speak words contrary to what Jesus spoke and speak with His authority. How can a man who rejects The Father’s words and deeds walk in the power of those words and deeds?
To walk in authority, we must honor authority. To have authority, we must be under authority. To be under authority is to be obedient to authority. Yep. If you want to enter into the kingdom of God here on earth, you’ve got to hear and obey God’s word.
