“The flow of divine power is limited only by the measure of the vessel that is being filled. The ability to become a child of God is dependent upon the ability to receive the Word.” ~ T. L. Lowery
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” (John 1:12, NKJV)
“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.” (Matthew 10:40–41, NKJV)
The honor with which you give to the person delivering the word to you will determine your reward from the word that you receive. If you see Jesus Christ as merely a “good teacher”, His teachings will only the authority of a teacher, and you will judge His teachings according to your own perceptions. If you honor Christ Jesus as God’s Son, you will let His words judge you and bring transformation, and His Words will direct your life.
If a prophet shows up and speaks into your life and you merely see him as a good person, you will judge his words based upon your situation or past thinking. If you see him as a prophet who has heard from God, his prophetic word spoken to you will carry great weight in your future walk.
Your reaction to the words of a person are the manifestation of the authority that you have given those words in your life. Many people still act according to old negative thoughts and words because they came from someone of authority in their life. In order to overcome those old negative thoughts and words, we must accept the authority of someone else to speak better things over us. When we come to Christ Jesus and receive His words, He gives us the authority to speak His words over ourselves. This empowers us to change all of those past ways of believing and speaking. We have the authority and power to change our future way of believing, thinking and speaking.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2, NKJV)
If the preachers, to whom we have given authority to speak into our lives, do not speak the faith-full living and loving words of Christ over us, we need to find a new preacher to listen to. Better yet, let’s learn to speak the life changing word of God over ourselves.
