“Passed from Death into Life”Please Read John 5:24–27 (NKJV)

ReflectionJesus continued unveiling His oneness with the Father and the life-giving authority that flows from it. He spoke words that still echo with present-tense power:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”

Notice the tense: “has everlasting life”… “has passed from death into life.” This is not a future promise only—it is a present-tense reality for anyone who hears Jesus’ word and believes in the Father who sent Him. Faith is the response: hearing the Word with an open heart and believing (agreeing) with what God has said. That simple act of the will—receiving and aligning with the truth—transfers us out of the realm of death and into life. We are no longer under condemnation; we have crossed over.

Jesus ties this present spiritual resurrection to His authority as the Son of Man. Because He is fully human yet fully one with the Father, the Father has granted Him life in Himself and the right to execute judgment. The same Son who gives life now will one day call forth the dead from their graves. But the “hour that is coming and now is” means spiritual awakening is available today—death to sin, new life in Christ, freedom from the dominion of condemnation.

In the Kingdom life, this is our inheritance right now. We do not wait to “get” eternal life someday; we possess it the moment we hear and believe. Yet possession comes with responsibility: we must renew our minds to live from this new reality. Death to sin is not automatic—it is chosen daily as we agree with God’s Word, submit our will, and walk in obedience. No more living under the shadow of judgment or the power of sin. We have passed from death into life. Let us honor the Son by living like it—speaking His truth, walking in His love, and carrying resurrection power into every situation.

ApplicationToday, thank Jesus that you have already passed from death into life through hearing and believing His word. If any area of your life still feels under condemnation or the old patterns of sin, bring it to Him right now. Renew your mind: “I have everlasting life… I have passed from death into life.” Choose to agree with that truth—speak it aloud, stand on it in prayer, and act on it in obedience. Look for one opportunity today to live from this new reality: encourage someone trapped in guilt, speak life over a dead situation, or simply rest in the assurance that you are no longer condemned. Your testimony of this present-tense life can help someone else hear and believe.

PrayerHeavenly Father, thank You for the voice of Your Son that calls us out of death and into life. Thank You that whoever hears His word and believes has everlasting life—right now—and has passed from death into life. Thank You that we are no longer under judgment but under grace. Renew our minds today to live from this truth. Help us hear Your Word clearly, believe it fully, and agree with it daily. Give us grace to die to sin and walk in the resurrection life You have given us. Let us honor the Son by living as those who have crossed over—free, alive, and full of Your authority. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
