Seeking Jesus First - March 07, 2026
“Four Witnesses to the Son”Please Read John 5:30–47 (NKJV)
ReflectionJesus continued defending His authority and identity before the religious leaders. He did not seek glory from men, nor did He need human approval. Instead, He pointed to four irrefutable witnesses that testified to who He is:
- John the Baptist — “He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light” (v. 35). John pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God, yet the leaders rejected the testimony they once enjoyed.
- The works Jesus did — “The works that the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me” (v. 36). The miracles were not self-promotion; they were evidence of the Father’s sending and endorsement.
- The Father Himself — “The Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me” (v. 37). The voice from heaven at Jesus’ baptism and the inner witness of the Spirit confirm this divine endorsement.
- The Scriptures — “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (vv. 39–40). The Law and the Prophets, including Moses, all point to Jesus—yet the leaders studied the words while missing the Word made flesh.
Jesus’ point is clear: do not seek honor from men. Seek the honor that comes from God alone. The Scriptures are living testimony of Christ, not a rulebook to master for self-righteousness. Many miss Him by clinging to tradition and external observance rather than coming to Him in relationship.
In the Kingdom life, Scripture is not an end in itself—it is a living pointer to Jesus. We renew our minds by searching the Word with open hearts, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ on every page. Personal responsibility rests on us: we must come to Jesus to have life. Believing His Word over human tradition unlocks eternal life now. The four witnesses still speak today—will we listen and come to Him?
ApplicationToday, open your Bible and ask: “Father, show me Jesus in this passage.” Let go of any tendency to study for knowledge alone or to honor men’s opinions over God’s. Renew your mind to see Scripture as testimony of Christ. Come to Jesus afresh—believe His Word, receive His life, and let go of traditions that keep you from relationship. Share one truth you see about Jesus in the Word today—your fresh revelation can help someone else come to Him for life.
PrayerHeavenly Father, thank You for the four witnesses that testify to Your Son—the Baptist, His works, Your own voice, and the Scriptures. Thank You that we do not need human approval; we seek the honor that comes from You alone. Renew our minds today to search the Scriptures with hearts open to Jesus. Help us come to Him to have life, believing His Word over every tradition or opinion. Let us live in relationship with Him, not religion about Him. May we testify of what we see in Your Word, drawing others to the life only He gives. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
