“This Is the Work of God”

Please Read John 6:28–29 (NKJV)

Reflection

The crowd asked Jesus, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

This one sentence redefines everything about pleasing God. The work of God is not a list of tasks, rituals, or achievements—it is believing in the One the Father sent. Faith in Jesus is the singular act that aligns us with the Father’s heart and plan.

Hebrews 11:6 declares that without faith it is impossible to please God. Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3). Paul echoes this: “The word of faith which we preach” is that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:8–9).

Believing in Him whom the Father sent means trusting that the God who created all things sent His Son to die so we could become sons of God. It means receiving His finished work—forgiveness, righteousness, adoption as sons, access to the mind of Christ, and the indwelling Holy Spirit. When we believe, we enter eternal life, living relationship with the Father, and every promise tied to the New Covenant.

To reject the Son is to reject the Father who sent Him. But to believe is to receive everything the Father desires to give. Faith is not passive opinion; it is active trust—an act of the will to agree with God’s Word about His Son. This belief is the work that pleases God most, because it honors the One He sent and opens the door to all His grace.

Application

Today, pause and affirm your belief in Jesus—the One the Father sent. If doubt or distraction has crept in, bring it to Him and declare: “I believe in You, Jesus, whom the Father sent.” Renew your mind to this truth: the work of God is believing. Let this faith release fresh assurance of adoption, the mind of Christ, and the Holy Spirit’s presence. Choose one way to express your belief today—speak His name in prayer, thank Him for salvation, or share with someone that believing in Jesus is the work that brings eternal life. Your simple act of faith can encourage others to believe.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that the work You require is to believe in Your Son whom You sent. Thank You that faith in Jesus opens the door to eternal life, adoption as sons, the mind of Christ, and Your Holy Spirit living in us. Renew our minds today to rest in this simple, powerful truth. Help us believe with fresh trust, rejecting any thought that we must earn Your favor. Let our lives honor the Son by living from the reality of what believing brings. May others see our faith and be drawn to believe in Him too. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
