“I Am the Bread of Life”

Please Read John 6:28–40 (NKJV)

Reflection

The crowd asked Jesus, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” His answer was simple yet profound: “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst… This is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Jesus is the true Bread from heaven—the source of life that satisfies forever. Earthly bread fills for a day; the Bread of Life fills eternally. When we come to Him and believe in Him, we never hunger or thirst spiritually again. This is present-tense reality: everlasting life begins the moment we believe. We are raised up now in spirit (new birth, new creation) and will be raised bodily on the last day.

Believing in the One the Father sent is the single “work” God requires. It is not labor to earn; it is faith to receive. When we believe, we enter eternal life, step into living relationship with the Father, receive adoption as sons, gain access to the mind of Christ, and are sealed with the Holy Spirit. All of this flows from trusting the Son whom the Father sent to die so we could become sons of God.

Application

Today, thank Jesus that He is the Bread of Life. If any part of your heart still hungers for temporary things—approval, security, success—bring that hunger to Him. Renew your mind: the work of God is to believe in the One He sent. Choose to come to Him afresh—rest in His sufficiency, trust His promise of never hungering or thirsting. Speak His truth over your day: “I believe in You, Jesus, and I have everlasting life.” Share with someone how believing in Him satisfied a deep need in your life—your testimony can point them to the Bread that truly fills.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son as the Bread of Life. Thank You that whoever believes in Him shall never hunger or thirst and has everlasting life. Thank You for the promise that You will raise us up at the last day. Today we come to Jesus and believe afresh. Satisfy every hunger in our souls with Himself. Renew our minds to rest in the truth that believing is the work You require. Let us live from the fullness of eternal life now—adopted, filled with Your Spirit, and carrying the mind of Christ. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
