“Is This the Christ?”

Please Read John 7:25–31 (NKJV)

Reflection

As Jesus taught openly in the temple during the Feast of Tabernacles, the people of Jerusalem began to debate His identity. Some asked with growing expectation, “Is this not the Christ?” Others immediately objected, “We know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”

The crowd was divided. Some were ready to believe because of the signs they had seen. Others rejected Jesus based on outward appearance and human reasoning — they knew His family background and hometown, so they concluded He could not possibly be the Messiah.

Jesus responded with bold clarity: “You both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.”

True faith does not look to popular opinion, outward circumstances, or human logic for direction. True faith looks to the Word of God. The Scriptures — the Law and the Prophets — clearly pointed to Jesus as the Christ. Every promise, every prophecy, every type and shadow in the Old Testament testified that He is the Messiah the Father had sent. Those who searched the Scriptures with open hearts recognized Him.

In the Kingdom life, we are called to anchor our faith in the testimony of God’s Word rather than in human reasoning or appearance. When confusion arises or when others question, our anchor must be what Scripture declares about Jesus. Renewing our minds to the truth of God’s Word enables us to see Him clearly as the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Application

Today, take time to look to the Word of God concerning who Jesus is. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the truth that the Scriptures point to Him as the Christ. Renew your mind with this truth: true faith looks to the Word of God for direction. Choose to declare your faith in Jesus today based on what Scripture says, not on circumstances or human opinion. Share with someone one passage from the Word that has helped you believe that Jesus is the Christ. Your testimony can strengthen another person’s faith.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that clearly testifies that Jesus is the Christ. Thank You that true faith is anchored in Scripture rather than in outward appearance or human reasoning. Renew our minds today to see Jesus as Your Word reveals Him. Help us believe and declare with confidence that He is the promised Messiah. Give us grace to stand firm in Your truth even when others question or reject. May our lives be rooted in Your Word alone. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
