In the longest chapter of The Bible, the word “affliction” is mentioned seven times. It shows a progression of repentance that includes a reliance on God and Gods word. The verses are written in first person to a personal God - The Loving Father.
- God’s word comforts and gives life during my afflictions. Psalm 119:50 (NKJV):This is my comfort in my affliction,For Your word has given me life.
- My affliction came upon me when I went astray but I repented and came back to God’s word. Psalm 119:67 (NKJV): Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
- My afflictions served me well because I am now learning God’s statues. Psalm 119:71 (NKJV):It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
- God faithfully chastened me like a son. Psalm 119:75 (NKJV): I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
- As I delighted in God’s word, I overcame my affliction. Psalm 119:92 (NKJV):Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction.
- I still need God’s help recovering my affliction. And His Word promises me restoration. Psalm 119:107 (NKJV): I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
- I am continuing in God’s Word, He is mindful of me, and will deliver me. Psalm 119:153 (NKJV):Consider my affliction and deliver me, For I do not forget Your law.
