Seeking Jesus First Nov. 21, 2025

Spiritual war is taking place whether or not we engage. We lose if we don’t show up.

It is written, ” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:5–11, NKJV)

This verse teaches us how to “Show up” for battle:

  • Be humble before God and accept His words into your heart - exalting His way of thinking.
  • Submit to God and be obedient to His words - exalting His way of living.
  • Trust Him with your anxieties and emotions - exalting His way of loving.
  • Be sober and vigilant - exalting His way of believing and of being faithful.
  • Be aware that the enemy is looking for weakness in the flesh to exploit.
  • Resist the attempts of the devil to back you up or get you off course.
  • Be steadfast and consistent in faith - knowing that we are not alone but members of the body.
  • Look forward to the victory over your circumstances.

We experience victory every time we embrace God and God’s words and resist wiles and temptations of the devil. Every time you love, forgive, serve, obey God’s word, or suffer instead of sin, you have reason to rejoice in The LORD for the victory that He has given you.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:2–8, NKJV)
