If someone writes you a check for $1,000 and gives it to you as a gift, you have received a promissory note. You don’t have the money until you negotiate the check. But if the person is trustworthy, you give thanks at the receipt of the promise. There is no need to wait until after you have cashed the check to say, Thank You. Faith gives thanks at the receipt of the promise.
