Baptism is immersion into Christ.

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38, NKJV)

Baptism in water.

Baptism in Holy Spirit

Baptism in The WORD.

In baptism, we are immersed in the water. Our old man is considered drowned and destroyed, dead and buried, and when we come out of the water, our sins are washed away and we are brand new creatures.

In a similar way, we receive the baptism of Holy Spirit. Our inner man, our spiritual being, is immersed in the Spirit of God and it is raised to new life. The Scripture tells us that we become one with God through this unification of Holy Spirit with our spirit (kind of like a marriage union).

We also immerse ourselves in the Word of God and receive the washing of the water of the Word of God. “…just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,” (Ephesians 5:25–26, NKJV)

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” (James 1:21, NKJV)

Our minds are renewed to the mind of Christ and we begin to think like Him. We stop comparing and measuring our thoughts against the worldly and demonic way of thinking. As we immerse our self in the word of God, the old dies away and the new comes to life right in our soul. We must allow The Word of God to permeate our thinking and renew our minds. We stop warring against the mind of God and we submit to Him.  Upon emerging from that immersion, we are transformed. Our old way of thinking has died and we have the mind of Christ.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” (Romans 12:1–3, NKJV)
