How long should we put up with a contentious person in our church?

But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.” (Titus 3:9–11, NKJV)

Apostle Paul told Titus to reject them after the second admonition. A warped person causes division. Warped means perverse, bent or twisted out of shape. The definition says it usually is the result of heat or dampness. Heat is like pressure that hardens, while dampness is softens and rots. A person can be contentious from either being too hard or too soft. A person who practices sin without repentance will also bring division. They will deal with their own self-condemnation by allowing and defending others who are sinning or they will come down very hard on them. Once again, we get the picture of too hard or too soft.

As leaders, if we allow a person like this to remain, we are asking for trouble within our body of believers. Send them out and see if they will turn and repent after they are rejected by the body.
