Seeking Jesus First Oct. 24, 2025
“Let God be true and every man a liar.”
“For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.” (Romans 3:3–4, NKJV)
If God and His word is true, what makes every man a liar? Two perspectives come into view from this Scripture. First, Looking at it straight on, it becomes evident that opposing God and His word makes every man a liar. Remember the last time we spoke from our natural understanding. What was the motivation? What was the underlying truth from God’s perspective? What would God have said if we asked Him? We may very well have been speaking facts as we saw them. However, truth comes from God and it is founded upon wisdom, peace and love. Facts are temporary. Truth is eternal.
Second, are we still a liar when we declare God’s truth against a fact? In the eyes of man, we are, but not in the eyes of our Heavenly Father. “Let the weak say, I am strong.” When we have sickness in the body, we say, “Jesus bore our sins on a tree, and we, having died to sin, now live to righteousness, and with His stripes we are healed.” To those around, us we appear a liar, or, at the very least, a hyper-spiritual nut job who denies reality. When we sin, we call ourselves the righteousness of God.
Look what happens when we declare God’s truth over our facts. “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.” We are justified by His words and we overcome when we are judged.
God speaks as though things that do not exist, actually exist already. And yet God is true and every man a liar. When we speak His word as though it exists for us already, we are honoring God and His word, and His words will justify us. Faith is the substance of things we hope for and the proof that the unseen actually exists. Only believe. Believe God and His Word. Trust Him even when you can’t see your way through. Know that God has already spoken the way through before it existed. Be still and know Him. He will show you the way.
