Apostle Paul admonishes and encourages the Ephesians to “put on” the whole armor of God. “Put on” is a word that means to sink into. We have identity in Christ and authority and power through His Name and Holy Spirit. It is, “Christ in us”. The anointing of The Holy Spirit is “Christ on us”. The whole point of Christ being in us is that Christ be formed in us. The seed will produce a tree. We grow up into Christ in all things. To “put on” the whole armor is to walk in your Christ identity. Let me emphasize, the armor is not something we put on only by saying it. We say it from a place of faith to remind ourselves :
- To stay in Truth and speak the truth in love.
- To keep our heart pure in Righteousness through faith, hope and love.
- To walk in peace with others and stay ready to share our Gospel of Peace with them at all times.
- To keep the Hope of our Salvation alive in our thoughts so it can protect us against the doubt that attacks our minds.
- To walk and live by faith - living by every loving word that proceeds from God - and not by sight.
- To use the loving word of God by the power of Holy Spirit as a way to overcome the world.
- To be a people of Prayer.
You see, these are not natural pieces of armor that we have to put on, nor do they work separately from one another. They are part of our identity and privilege as sons of God . We have it all on the inside and we get to be it and do it.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—” (Ephesians 6:10–18, NKJV)
