He who has no root in himself will let faith in God (and faith in God’s promises) wither away. Where does this deep rooted faith come from? “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17–19, NKJV)
Our faith is rooted in the truth that God loves us. He loved us first. He loves us still. He will always love us because God is love. When our faith is rooted in God’s love us, we trust Him. We trust His words. And the knowledge of Him and His love begins to grow in our understanding. We begin experiencing His presence and His promise more and more and that experience breeds deeper faith in Him and His word. The faith cycle only grows from there. Love, trust, obedience, experience, knowledge, understanding, love, trust, obedience, experience, knowledge, understanding, etc. until we are filled with the fullness of God.
