SJF - Daily Worship, Word and Spirit - Dec. 22, 2023

Thanksgiving - In the Old Testament, thanksgiving is aligned with the word “bless”. In the New Testament, the word is aligned with the word “grace”.

Therefore, thanksgiving is the acknowledging of God’s blessing and grace on our lives.

I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” (Philemon 4–6, NKJV)

Thanksgiving is the first faith, hope and love filled heavenly language that we learn as believers. When we use this kind of language to the exclusion of all others, our attention and focus is rightly fixed.

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29, NKJV)

The language of heaven begins with faith, hope and love in the heart. Then out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Stay, “SOAK”, in God’s Presence until the “bitter waters” are cleansed. When the olive branch (Christ Jesus) is placed in the water, the bitterness is removed. Your well was made to bring forth “sweet waters.”

(More on the topic of bitter and sweet water tomorrow...)
