What do you do when your soul is looking down instead of up? King David wrote more than once, “Why are you cast down, oh my soul, why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God. I shall yet praise Him - the health/help of my countenance.”
King David had been through perilous times and situations. He had been in places that many would lose hope or be afraid. One time his own people wanted to stone him, but he encouraged himself in The LORD. The soul, (mind, will, emotions) is not meant to be the master of you. You are a spiritual being who, through faith and patience, possesses Your soul. With the help of Holy Spirit and The Word of God, you too can encourage yourself in The LORD. Tell your soul what to do based upon what God says is good. Remind your soul how good God is. Let God’s presence heal your countenance.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1–5, NKJV)
