James 4:11 says, “Do not speak evil of one another.” Jesus gave us the new covenant command to “love one another as I have loved you.” If we speak evil of each other, we are setting ourselves above the law of love. There verse right before that one says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of The Lord, and He will lift you up.”

Have you ever thought about why people speak evil of others?

  • Offense?
  • Inadequacy?
  • Culture?

Isn’t all of that simply judging someone else as unworthy of honor? Well that is the point James was making. When a person decides they have the right to belittle another person, they are exalting themselves. “Pride goes before destruction”…

We can let love flood our hearts because we have Holy Sprite in us. Let’s humble ourselves and lift others up.
