Christ Jesus foretold of his capture, scourging, and crucifixion. He also foretold of his own resurrection on the third day.

Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”” (Matthew 20:17–19, NKJV)

In this passage, Christ Jesus speaks of Himself in the third person as “the Son of Man”. The term “son of man” is used 93 times in the Book of Ezekiel. God called Ezekiel, “son of man”, when God was giving him prophetic words of warning and judgement to pronounce over the nations. “Son of man” as a function is primarily one of authority who decrees the judgement. One need only look up how it is used to determine this. Search the Scriptures for yourself. Jesus said, “The son of man has the power on earth to forgive sins…”, “The son of man is Lord of the Sabbath…” and “the son of man must be lifted up...”on the cross and crucified.

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.” (John 5:26–27, NKJV)

The Son of Man whose primary function was to issue the judges decree of condemnation, did not come to condemn but to save. The Son of Man came to be crucified so that all of sin and condemnation would be nailed to a cross and buried in the earth. The judge passed sentence and became the judged.

After His death, burial and resurrection, The Father gave Him the most exalted name in heaven and earth - a new name. Our Father in Heaven gave the resurrected Christ Jesus the highest of all names and all glory and honor, so that at His Name, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ, The Anointed Savior, is LORD, YHWH!
