It has been said that, “Practice Makes Perfect”. However, only perfect practice makes perfect. Practice merely makes permanent. The thing that you do repeatedly becomes permanent. If you wish to remove something that has become permanent, you must purposely practice something different in its place. Something permanent has to be purposely rejected and replaced with something else.
In other words, transformation comes from renewing the mind. In order to change the way we think, we must purposely learn something new. We must purposely retrain ourselves to think differently. As believer who have Holy Spirit dwelling with and in us, we have a personal ever-present coach. This coach will teach and correct us as we go.
2 Corinthians 10:4–6 (NKJV): 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (listening to Christ), 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience (mis-hearing) when your obedience is fulfilled (hearing has been corrected)
The words “obedience” and “disobedience” are directly related to hearing correctly. It’s simple enough to realize that we can only obey Christ when we are purposely listening to Christ. The word for disobedience in this passage is “mis-hearing” or not listening to the Holy Spirit and the life-giving word of God. A seared conscience will turn a deaf ear to godly instruction. One who is not hearing Holy Spirit must seek, ask and knock (soak, worship and pray) until the connection is formed. Be still and know GOD. To know is to encounter and experience- touch, hear and see. Taste and see that The LORD is GOOD.
