Conscience - Part Two
In Apostle Paul’s pastoral letters to Timothy and Titus, he talks about a “good conscience”, a “clear conscience”, a “defiled conscience” and a “seared” conscience.
A good and clear conscience is the result of living your life according to faith and love. A good conscience has always been associated with morality and acting in accordance with godly principles.
A seared or defiled conscience is the result of ignoring the promptings of The Spirit and not living according to your faith in Christ. Knowing that a conscience can be defiled and seared makes us realize that we are not just talking about how we feel about what we are doing. A defiled or seared conscience no longer “feels” the conviction of righteousness when going against faithful godliness. It justifies not walking according to faith, hope and love; and it creates its own feelings of vindication and justification.
I recently lost my temper and tried to justify the way I acted. However, Holy Spirit would not allow me to settle into His peace afterwards until I repented. If I had not repented, my conscience would be defiled and seared against listening to Holy Spirit in other things as well.
Let’s return to a softness of heart. Plow up the fallow ground of our hearts today and soak our souls with God’s presence and love. Repent and return to a clear and good conscience with me.
