Part Three - Can we expect a harvest from seed that is unplanted? I’m not asking if it’s possible to reap where we haven’t planted. I’m asking, can we expect to reap a harvest from unplanted seed? There is seed at Home Depot in seed packets. As long as they remain in seed packets, they will not produce a harvest.

When we reap where we haven’t sown, it is because someone else has planted the seed. Example: if you go and purchase a farm that someone else has been planting, you will be able to reap the harvest from that farm where you did not plant. Your purchase of the farm is the purchase of the planted seed. Therefore, it is the same as if you have planted it.

Jesus speaks of a parable about a man who finds a treasure in a field. The man goes and sells all that he has in order to purchase the field and gain the treasure. A similar parable is told about the pearl of great price. The merchant discovers an amazing pearl. He goes and sells all that he has in order to purchase the pearl. Jesus told these parables in connection with a person receiving the gospel. When we put our faith in Christ Jesus, we are purchasing His seed and we are purchasing His harvest. However, there is a price to pay for receiving His harvest. (Caveat: salvation is a free gift, but to receive the harvest in this life requires something from you.) You trade all that you have for all that He did. It is a better Covenant with better promises. it is freely received through Faith. It is also a yolk. When we put our faith in God through Jesus Christ, we yoke ourselves to Christ Jesus. If we pull against the yolk, will it not cause us pain? Can we expect to go through life, resisting God’s will, God’s word and God’s ways, and still expect God to bless what we are doing?

Can we expect to receive His harvest while we are rejecting His seed? What is Christ’s seed? The seed is the word. When we receive His word, we are receiving his incorruptible seed. it is the entrance of His word that gives us light. It is His word that gives us faith. It is His word that gives us hope. It is His word that opens our eyes. It is His word that renews our minds. And it is His word that should be in our hearts in our mouths. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Oh Lord, our strength and our Redeemer.”
