Part Five - Any worthwhile endeavor requires us to grow- to expand- to build in order to become something bigger and better than we were when we started. So it is natural that when we start believing God‘s promises, we will face obstacles that must be overcome. Jesus said this himself. Jesus said persecution comes for the word’s sake. He said that when the seed is planted, the adversary comes immediately to try to take that seed.
You will face resistance when trying to grow in God. It takes perseverance and patience and faith. It takes tenacity to stick with it. You have to move through pain. You have to move through opposition. The opposite of a promise does not come from God. It comes from our own flesh, from our own misconceptions, or from our own wrong thinking. It comes from within us because we have to grow past who we are in order to receive something new.
This is what it means to have faith - to believe what we can’t see about ourselves and grow and change and become what God has declared about us. The seed is in us, but there are multiple seeds contained in the seed of Christ. Every promise is given to us in seed form. Every command is a path to the promise. Remember all of the seed packets at the hardware store? Our Bible is a seed packet. It is full of commands and promises that are given to us for our own provision and transformation.
It’s time to plow the dirt. It’s time to pull the weeds. It’s time to plant the seeds. It’s time to water. It’s time to harvest. It’s time to keep out the bugs and the birds and the stuff that wants to eat your harvest before you can. This is a work of righteousness in your life. This is a work of God’s love in your life. This is a work of the Holy Spirit in your life. Will you be faithful when you put your hand to the plow? Will you keep moving forward in faith? Will you stick with your garden until you receive the promise?
Be faithful in the little things. Be faithful in your giving. Be faithful in your loving. Be faithful in your relationships. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:7–9, NKJV)
