Apostle Paul was a premier Jewish scholar named Saul traveling on the road towards a town called Damascus when he encountered the resurrected Jesus. Jesus changed Saul to Paul and then Paul sought the face of Jesus. Paul went after spiritual intimacy with Christ Jesus. He basically hid himself away in Christ Jesus for a time.

Paul taught us to do the same. “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:17–18)

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1–2)

Where did Paul get the concept of “beholding Christ Jesus”? Well we all know that Holy Spirit taught him this. However, let’s take a look at something David wrote ion Psalms. “As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.” (Psalm 17:15, NKJV) “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

We can also look at the teachings of Jesus, Himself. “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you…“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.” (John 15:7,9)

We have learned that,” face to face”, means,” in the presence of”. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) We are welcome in the presence of God.
