Part Three - God’s words in our mouths
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” (Ephesians 6:17, NKJV) Isa. 49:2 says, “He has made my mouth like a sharp sword…”
“Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand, To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples; To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute on them the written judgment— This honor have all His saints. Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 149:6–9, NKJV)
The New Covenant makes our decrees into swords - weapons of spiritual warfare. The words in people’s mouths can be like swords for evil or for good. The Scripture makes this plain. “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4, NKJV)
The truth is that, as kings, our words carry the weight of authority. Our words will impact whatever we have the authority to influence. What has God given you authority to influence? If you are faithful over little, He will make you ruler over much. First, you have authority over yourself. Second, you have authority in your family. Third, you have authority in your work. Fourth, you have authority or influence in those who call themselves your friends. There may be more. You may even be an elected person who has been entrusted with the authority to make laws and rules.
Whatever your level of authority and influence, your words carry weight in that area. They have the inane power to produce life or death. With this in mind, judge your words. Ask, “Are my words life giving?”, “Am I using my words carelessly?”, “Are my words motivated by faith, hope and love?”
