Part Five - God’s words in our mouths
Just how important is it for us to keep our conversation pure?
“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:15–16, NKJV)
“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct (conversation) aright I will show the salvation of God.”” (Psalm 50:23, NKJV)
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct (conversation), in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12, NKJV)
The word translated conduct or conversation means, “manner of life”. It includes your walk and your talk. It is used 18 times in the New Testament. We are admonished by Paul, James and Peter to:
- Put off the conversation that we had before we were in Christ Jesus when what we said and did were based upon fleshly desires.
- Let our conversation be as it reflects and beautifies the gospel. Be an example of believers.
- Receive our new manner of life from heaven. “Our conversation is in heaven”.
- Manifest, through a good conversation, our works with meekness and wisdom.
- Be holy in ALL manner of conversation including the way we speak.
• Have a good conscience by maintaining a good conversation among unbelievers.
