“but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” (Exodus 20:6, NKJV)
Right in the middle of giving the Ten Commandments of the Law of Moses, God says that He shows mercy to those who love Him and keep His commandments. It is the first time in Scripture that God expresses the desire to be loved by humanity.
Jesus gives us the new commandment of the new covenant that He established for us: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”” (John 13:34–35, NKJV)
So let’s bring that loving nature of God into the new covenant commandment. God shows mercy to those who love Him and love one another as He has loved them.
“Father God, thank You for loving me. Thank You for all the Christ Jesus did for us because of love. I believe and receive Your love and the love of Christ and I purpose in my heart to love you and love others. I receive Your mercy and compassion and the empowerment of Holy Spirit to do this and to be disciplined in love by Your love.”
