“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12–13, NKJV)
Once you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, you receive the authority privilege and right to become children of God. What does that mean?
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:1–3, NKJV)
Anyone with the privilege to become a son of God, and chooses to exercise that privilege, purifies himself, just as Jesus is pure. Many people never realize the authority that believing in Christ Jesus gives them. Believers receive authority to purify themselves, just as Jesus is pure. Purify ourselves? That’s what The Scripture says and it cannot lie. Righteousness is a gift to the inner man. Working that righteousness into the soul and body requires discipleship - the application of the soul to following Christ Jesus. I activate my mind, will and emotions to follow Jesus. I submit to God and resist the devil. Want another witness? 2 Cor. 7:1.
