Further Reflection: “The Gifts of the Spirit in the Life of Jesus”

Reflection
At the well we are not only watching compassion. We are watching the Spirit at work in the life of Jesus.
“The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7). In John 4 that manifestation is seen in Christ without spectacle. He began with, “Give Me a drink.” Then the supernatural became visible.
When He said, “Go, call your husband,” and named her five husbands and the man who was not her husband, that is what Paul later calls a word of knowledge — insight into what flesh could not know. He did not expose her to shame her. He awakened her. She said, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.”
He also answered with a word of wisdom. He did not only uncover her past. He directed her future. When she raised Gerizim or Jerusalem, He said the hour was coming, and now is, when true worshipers worship the Father in spirit and truth. That is wisdom from above — heaven’s view applied to the present.
He discerned the thirst under her questions — past the barrier, the argument, and the broken story. The result was transformation. She left the waterpot and ran to the city. “Come, see a Man…” Many believed because of her word. More believed when they heard Him. The gifts served their purpose: they revealed Christ.
In Jesus the gifts were never for display. They were redemptive. They pointed to the Father. They opened hearts to life. They were love in action.
The same Spirit now dwells in His body. The living water becomes a fountain within. The Spirit does not only give new birth. He equips. The gifts are not for comparison. They are “for the profit of all.” They serve the harvest. They serve love.
The pattern in Samaria is clear: revelation, invitation, transformation, testimony, then faith in the community. The Son lived in submission to the Father and in cooperation with the Spirit. That is what Spirit-filled obedience looks like.
Application
Today, do not only admire what Jesus did. Receive what He modeled.
Renew your mind with this truth: ask not for power to be seen, but for power that redeems. Not insight for influence, but revelation for restoration. When love flows through a surrendered life, a conversation at a well can change a city.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus lived in full cooperation with Your Spirit. Fill us with the same Spirit. Let every gift serve love and reveal Christ. Use us for the profit of all, and for the harvest You have prepared. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
