Day 1: The Heart Issue – Where Pride Begins
Scripture: Mark 7:20–23 (NKJV) and James 4:8 (NKJV) “And He said, ‘What comes out of a man, that defiles a man… pride… All these evil things come from within and defile a man.’ … ‘Purify your hearts, you double-minded.’”
Devotion:Pride does not start on the outside—it flows from the heart. Jesus placed it in the same list as murder and adultery. It convinces us we are self-sufficient and hides our deep need for God. When pride rules the heart, we become double-minded, trying to walk with God while still protecting self.
In seasons when we feel out of sorts—after difficult meetings or unexpected setbacks—the Holy Spirit gently invites us to examine the heart. Pride often hides here, robbing us of peace and joy. But the good news is this: the same Spirit who searches the heart also purifies it.
Kingdom Application:Today, pause and pray Psalm 139:23-24. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden pride. Write down what He shows you. Choose to release it. Heart purification is the first step to restored intimacy and fresh strength.
Prayer:Holy Spirit, search my heart today. Reveal every root of pride. Purify me and make me single-minded toward You. I surrender my need to be right, to be recognized, or to control outcomes. Draw near to me as I draw near to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Kingdom Confession:“My heart is being purified. I reject pride and choose humility. God draws near to me today.”
