The Life Was Manifested

Reflection

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life…

Apostle John, who also wrote the Gospel of John, begins this letter by sharing how the disciples encountered Jesus. They heard Him. They saw Him. They looked upon Him. Their hands handled Him. He is doing his best to transfer that experience to the reader.

This is not a report about an idea. Jesus, the Son of God, came in the flesh — Immanuel — and dwelt among them. The Word who was from the beginning took on flesh. Eternal life stepped into time, and into the hearts of those who believe.

John will not keep the encounter to himself. He declares what he has seen and heard so that we may have fellowship with them — and their fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. The good news is not that we study a distant God. It is that the life which was with the Father has been manifested to us, and we are invited into that same communion.

He writes these things that our joy may be full. Full joy is not managed. It is received. It rises where the Word of life is welcomed and fellowship with the Father and the Son becomes the atmosphere of the heart.

Application

Today, do not treat this testimony as history only. John is handing you what he handled.

Renew your mind with this truth: the life has been manifested in Jesus, and fellowship with the Father and the Son is yours by faith. Receive the witness. Speak it. Let the same life that stepped into time fill your heart with joy.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that the Word of life was from the beginning and has been manifested in Your Son. Thank You that John did not keep the encounter to himself. We receive Jesus. We enter fellowship with You and with Your Son. Let this Word dwell in us and make our joy full. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
