Is the Parable of the Sower speaking only about the good news of salvation?

When Jesus told the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, He said, “The sower sows the word of the kingdom.” In Mark 4, Jesus said, “The sower sows the word.” People may think of that as the message of salvation as it pertains to forgiveness of sins. However, “the word” encompasses much more than that. People also quote John 1 and say, “Jesus is the word”, and they are correct. However, what does Jesus, The Word, say about it?

And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it.” (Mark 4:33, NKJV)

Everything that Jesus opened His mouth and spoke is the word. He spoke the word in parables and he spoke the word directly. He preached the word. He taught the word. He declared the word. “Only He has the words of life.” “His words are spirit and life.” “We live by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

The word of God is The Scriptures. They are God breathed. The word of God has the breath of His Spirit upon them. Remove the Spirit and they are no longer life giving. Jesus is a life-giving spirit. His words are life. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:35–41, NKJV)

Once you have heard the word and have received faith to believe what He said, It is time to believe and not doubt. Jesus Christ rebuked His disciples when they showed a lack of faith. See if you can find anything else that He rebuked His own disciples for. God’s word gives us faith. Then we start planting it every chance we get.
