Seeking Jesus First Dec. 3, 2024
The mouth reveals the heart and trains the brain. This statement is made to those who love God and follow Christ Jesus. It is made to those who are saved by grace through faith. Grace is God’s part. Using the faith that He gave us is our part. When the mouth and the lips are clean, the heart is pure.
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”” (Isaiah 6:1–7, NKJV)
When faced with the very presence of GOD HIMSELF, the prophet mourned his unclean lips. The angel took fire from the altar of incense (Rev.8:3) and touched the prophet’s mouth and cleansed his lips and purge his sins. This seems like a deeper cleansing than we might be tempted to understand at first. Isaiah had a problem with speaking things that were not pure - unholy. When Isaiah saw The LORD, he came under great conviction for the things he had been speaking. The fiery coal from the altar of incense - the prayers of the saints(Rev.8:3) - was used to cleanse the lips and purge the sins of Isaiah.
The lips are part of the body. Our words are the fruit of spirit, soul and body working together or working against each other. Our lips are cleansed as we boldly and confidently come before the throne of grace by faith and pray with the Spirit and with the understanding - laying hold of mercy and grace. This process is not “being born again”. It is being sanctified by the words of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit. It is more like being baptized in the Holy Ghost and fire and being continually filled with The Spirit.
