Signs of a New and Better Covenant - Part Five
The disciples asked Jesus, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”” (Matthew 24:3, NKJV)
“The Coming of the son of man” shows up in the Old Testament. Jeremiah 4:13 tells Jerusalem that ‘he” would rise up like a cloud and with a whirlwind would judge Jerusalem. Ezekiel 1-3 speaks of God coming in a whirlwind an a cloud surrounded by angels, signs and wonders. Then Ezekiel is commanded to go to the rebellious house of Israel and warn them of the coming judgement if they do not repent. In Ezekiel 38, coming like a cloud is used of a nation coming against Israel to plunder it.
There is another in Daniel 7:9-14. This one seems different from the others: ““I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened. “I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame. As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:9–14, NKJV)
The Ancient of Days had set up thrones and was being worshipped in His glory. Then the Son of Man comes to Him in the clouds and receives a throne and an everlasting dominion over an ever increasing kingdom without end.
After Jesus died, was buried, resurrected and ascended to heaven, He came back to earth for forty days, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18, NKJV) He also taught them about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:1-3).
Jesus went before The Ancient of Days and received a throne and a kingdom that resides over all the kingdoms of heaven and earth. This was the beginning of not only a new covenant but of a new age.
