Seeking Jesus First Nov. 19, 2024
What did Christ Jesus tell people to seek?
“But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:31–34, NKJV) Matthew 6:33 says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”
This daily devotion is called, “Seeking Jesus First”, but Jesus told us to seek His kingdom first. In order to seek Jesus, we need to seek His kingdom. We see the command to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. His righteousness is received through faith in Him and so is His kingdom. When we seek the kingdom of God, our Father in heaven takes joy in giving it to us.
What does it mean to seek the kingdom of God?
It means to become citizens and enter the domain of God through faith in Him and in the one He sent. It means to come under the dominion of God. It means that God reigns in our life. It means to be in Christ an to have Christ in us. It means to embrace the love culture of heaven. It means to start doing things the way heaven does things. It means to import heaven’s culture to earth. It means to exemplify heaven’s culture on earth. This is why we pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
It also means that we become familiar with the presence of God. Through faith in Christ Jesus, not only is our citizenship in heaven, but we are also welcome to visit heaven as often as we like. This is why God gave us His Holy Spirit to dwell with us and in us. Holy Spirit dwells “with us” so that we can experience heaven on earth. Holy Spirit dwells “in us” so that we can experience heaven in heaven. While still on earth, we are also seated in Christ in the heavenly places. We are made partakers of the divine nature and we have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness.
