Jesus said, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you will and it shall be done.” Words are important. Words have the power to curse or to bless. “The power of life and death is in the tongue, those who love it shall eat its fruit.” The words you speak have power. The power of life and death is in the tongue. God has given you power and authority. You have the power to use His words of blessing or you can use words that destroy.

Gal. 6: says “Don’t be deceived, God is not mocked, for a man shall reap what he sows.” Does this apply to our words as well as our actions? We know it applies to what we do, because Gal. 5 talks about the works of the flesh and the fruit of the spirit. Jesus taught that we are justified or condemned by our own words, so it is true concerning the way we speak as well. We actually condemn or justify ourselves with our own words. When we believe and choose God’s words about us, we receive His justification of us. When we believe and choose the thief’s condemning words, we walk in that condemnation. Because of John 3:17, we know that Christ Jesus does not condemn the world, but rather, He came to save it. And now He has sent His body into the world to save it without condemning themselves or it. Further, Jesus said in that verse, that darkness and condemnation were already in the world because of sin. He became sin on the cross that we might be justified in His death and become the righteousness of God in Him. Therefore, we can speak the words of righteousness provided to us by Christ Jesus and walk in justification. We are not condemned to keep the words of condemnation and death. We are free to speak life instead of death. We are free to abide in the words of Christ Jesus. We are free to believe and receive all of His promises because we are free to live in righteousness by faith.

Make a covenant with your mouth to abide in the words of Christ Jesus.
