Did Christ Jesus create a whole new covenant or did He just amend the old one?

Matthew 26:28 and Mark 14:24 tell us the words of Jesus: “This is My blood of the  new covenant, which is shed for the remission of sins.” This was not a covenant established on the blood of animal sacrifices that had to be renewed year after year. This new covenant was established upon His own blood once and for all. The old covenant could not continue without a priesthood and an annual animal sacrifice. Jesus did not come with authority to amend the law of Moses. There is no precedent for that in Scripture. However, Jesus did come with authority to grant eternal life to those who believe in Him.

Christ Jesus is The Lawgiver of The NewCovenant. John 13:34–35 (NKJV): “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

A new covenant required a new command. It is a covenant of salvation through faith. It replaces an old covenant that did not produce salvation. When you read the apostles talking about keeping the new covenant commands, they are talking about believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and loving one another.
